Paula Rubino was born in Trenton, New Jersey in 1968 into a family of snowbirds who eventually settled in Florida. Not long after graduating from the University of Florida College of Law, she delved seriously into writing and painting, living in Mexico, Ireland, and eventually Florence, Italy where she studied at The Florence Academy of Art and received her diploma in 2000. She then studied etching with Richard Serrin, followed by painting at Odd Nerdrum’s summer studio in Norway. Today she lives in Finland though continues to migrate to Florida in winter.
Rubino has exhibited throughout the USA and Europe, including solo exhibitions at SCAPE in Los Angeles, Galerie Oljemark in Helsinki, Ann Long Fine Art in Charleston, SC, and Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor, NY. Group exhibitions include Hirschl & Adler Galleries, New York; WH Patterson Galleries, London; Solomon Gallery, Dublin; Panorama Museum, Germany; and Haugar Vestfold Kuntsmuseum, Norway. Rubino is a 2006 recipient of the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation Grant.

Rubino’s paintings are marked by sparse composition, careful arrangement of people, objects, and space, denoting various aspects of the human condition. However, the work’s fundamental aim is to impart optimism and compassion in the spirit of Dostoevsky’s words, “Beauty will save the world.”
