Edson was born in Recife, northeast of Brasil, in 1970. At about 15 years old, he taught himself drawing, as well as etching and watercolor. In 1994 he changed mediums and began to work in oil on canvas, studying with local painters in his city. Feeling the necessity to study classical drawing and painting techniques, he discovered The Florence Academy of Art in July of 1996, which became the focal point of his career. Learning the craft and the foundations from qualified teachers who were active painters in their own right allowed him to expand his work to cast and figure drawing, cast and figure painting, portraits, still-life, landscape. In April 1999 he returned to Brasil, Recife, and started working on commissioned portraiture, participating in exhibitions in galleries, institutions and museums.
