Jonathan Chorn, born in Gauteng (previously Johannesburg),  grew up in the heart of the uprising and disestablishment of the South African apartheid.  He is a 4th generation South African.  He was accepted at the young age of 14 to attend National School of the arts, a widely attended fine art school by all of Africa.  There he was exposed to many different nationalities from many different African countries.  This left a lasting impression on him.  He then went on to attend at the University in Cape Town followed by 3 and 1/2 years, plus a summer program at The Florence Academy of Art.  Currently residing with his wife and four year old son in Santa Cruz, California, he is teaching the academic method at Pacific Coast Academy and creating works of Nelson Mandela and other sculpture.  His inspiration of cultures and their art forms influence him to blend the classical works with abstract forms to reveal the facade of mankinds divisions and separations.
