  Born and raised in Poland, Magda Almy moved to the United States at the age of 15. Inspired by her artistically inclined father, a painter, she began her formal education at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2002 when she graduated as Valedictorian. In 2003, with fellow graduate, colleague and husband, Matt Almy, she enrolled at The Florence Academy of Art, attracted to the school's traditional approach to academic training. She was a teaching assistant in the Intensive Drawing Program for one year, and completed the painting program in 2005. She returned to Chicago that year to begin her career as a professional painter. Her awards include the American Society of Illustrators Annual Scholarship competition in 2001 and Best Drawing of the Year at The Florence Academy of Art in 2004.She currently works and teaches at Ravenswood Atelier in Chicago.
